Can I rearrange live rock?

I have had a 12 gallon reef tank for about two months now. I was wondering if it is ok to add more live rock and rearrange its current setup?

I have a newly created 30-gallon saltwater tank that contains 40lbs of live sand and about 30lbs of live fiji rock. It’s only been up and running for a few days to begin cycling. I wanted to see what types of coral (when ready) will do well in this new system and not be extremely difficult to maintain?

My hood can handle 18watts max per bulb so have 2 lamps on it (best I can do):
-A 17watt Ocean Sun 10,000K
-And a Reef Sun 50/50

-Powerhead with Wavemaker

Avg. temp 84* F
Specific gravity: 1.021

I want to get several types of live coral, polyps, mushrooms and/or sponges if possible. I was thinking like torch coral, toadstool coral, trumpet coral etc. What types of live coral do you recommend for this setup? I probably prefer soft coral over hard. Thanks for your help.

Marine Aquarium Lighting?

I’m starting a 55 gal. reef tank and i wanted to know what my light setup can and can not handle.
My light strip hold four tubes:
2 - T5 HO 54W 10KK
2 - T5 HO 54W 460nm Actinic
Am I correct in assuming that I can put just about anything in my tank?

Reef aquarium question?

I have recently bought a used nano reef aquarium. When I bought it, the tank was pretty run down, but there was live rock, live sand and some other misc creatures (small feather duster and a few small clams..I think). I did a complete water switch and waited for the cycle. I showed a small spike in ammonia on the second day after the change and now 5 days after the change there is no ammonia or nitrite and a reading of 20 on nitrate. I am also pretty sure that it finished cycling because there is a sudden growth of green dust looking algae. I also noticed that the small clams (if they are clams) are emitting tiny white embryos (I think) out of their syphons. Should I go ahead with my clean up crew. I have had a 201 powerhead running a 80gph hob filter and a 50w tronic heater in this 7 g mini bow setup. Let me know what you think……Lastly I have been seeing these really tiny half orange half black hairy worms. what are they? Bristle worms?
Please only answer if you are experienced reefer and have an idea of what I am talking about. All answers are appreciated but I really need to know which direction to go from someone who knows themself

Do you have a bio cube? And would you buy one again?

I’m interested to hear if a bio cube is good for a reef tank. If you own one or have a friend that does let me know if its any good or if you would recommend another system or maybe a build my own setup?

Can someone walk me through a saltwater setup?

Hello! I think I’m finally ready to start taking on the responsibility of a salt water tank. I’ve been keeping tropical fish for quite some time and I told myself, if that went well, I’d try salt water. So… I have a 29 gallon tank. I know this isn’t the best size and the bigger the better, but I want to try this.

So can someone walk me through the process? The WHOLE process please?? lol.

And then just a couple questions…

I’ve heard that I do need a protein skimmer and that I don’t need a protein skimmer… Do I? And what does it actually do? Salt water books don’t explain much, I’ve found.

Same questions for power heads. Do I need one and what does it do?

How long should my tank sit before I start adding fish?

What kind of fish would be pretty to look at and easy (as easy as they come)?

And… live rock? Reef tank? What does it all mean?!?!

Thanks guys. I really want to do my reseach before I start this.
Hi again! Just so I don’t get repeat answers, I do know what the nitrogen cycle is.

And by "sit," I mean how long should I let my tank run once I have it set up? I know about nitrate, nitrite and ammonia, but when I start a fresh water tank, my water is clean (no ammonia, etc…). Is it different with saltwater? I’m a little confused…

But thank you so much BIGgourami. I’ll probably take you up on the email suggestion! :-)

I really just need to know about the things that make saltwater different from freshwater.

Sump Setup/Refugium/Skimmer/ and such?

If anyone could please give me a website which shows how to set it up, I have a 75gal tank, reef. Can somebody please either direct me to a website or just tell me now here, extensively. Ty

Is RO/DI water necessary in a FOWLR marine setup?

I am planning on getting a 30 gallon saltwater aquarium with a power filter, skimmer, heater, ect. I am aware of all the items needed for a saltwater setup. I know that you dont need RO water for a Fish only setup, or most FOWLR setups. I know it is needed for a reef setup. This is all the info I can gather from many websites and a few books. Can I use a conditioner to remove heavy metals, chlorine, chloramine, ect. from the tap water, then add a good salt mix (instant ocean), then age the water and add to tank during water changes, or set up. I know to use conditioned freshwater for top off. Will the conditioned tap water be safe for invertebrates such as cleaner shrimp, hermit crabs, emerald crabs. I know you need it for corals but I cant find info telling me if I need the RO water for inverts such as shrimp or crabs?

what are the best types of nano tanks?

I’m thinking about starting a saltwater reef tank and would like to know what are my best options. What is rated top of line when it comes to nano setups. I have looked into Red Sea Max (High Cost) and the JBJ (Overheating). Im not looking to spend a fortune but I would really like to find a setup that will not require me to buy additional skimmers or chillers. Any advice would be great. Thanks.
